Fereej Al Najada

About Fereej Al Najada

Fereej Al Najada (Arabic: النجادة) is one of the oldest districts in Qatar, and it’s located in the municipality of Doha.

Fereej Al Najada was the cultural hub for local families to gather, celebrate and connect at Barahat Al Jufairi. Doha's rapid urbanization during the 1970s after its independence, resulted in the gradual decline of Al Najada, and several of its historical buildings have been demolished.

Qatar Museums has taken steps to preserve the cultural and architectural heritage of the district with its 'Al Turath al Hai' ('living heritage') initiative. The Origins of the Doha Project have documented the most significant structures dating back to the early 20th century. Some contemporary buildings dating to the late 20th century were intentionally designed with traditional elements of Qatari architecture to preserve the district's identity.

Fereej Al Najada's significant location positions it as the hub of cultural and creative interactions, 2 minutes walking distance from Souq Waqif, 2 minutes walking distance from the bank street, and 10 minutes walking distance from Msheireb Downtown Doha.

Al Najada aims to link society, cultural heritage, and the economy in one initiative, which leads to the creation of adequate space to preserve the originality of the heritage components in Al Najadah and the development of the creative industry.
