The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) opened in 2008 and is one of the world’s premier institutions of Islamic art. As one of Qatar Museums’ first projects, MIA safeguards masterpiece collections of Islamic artefacts spanning some 1,400 years and showcases them through extraordinary exhibitions.

MIA presents a changing programme of exhibitions illuminating “the heritage of Islamic cultures across the globe,” as well as extensive educational activities for students and families, making the museum a vital part of the community.

Designed by renowned Chinese American architect, I.M. Pei, MIA has become a popular museum in the region and internationally, attracting thousands of visitors annually.

The MIA holdings consist of more than 11,000 objects, spanning three continents and 13 centuries, comprising one of the best collections of Islamic art in the world. Representing the full scope of Islamic art from the 7th to the 20th centuries, the MIA collection includes manuscripts, ceramics, metal, glass, ivory, textiles, wood, and precious stones. These works have been collected from countries across the Middle East, and reaching as far as Spain and China.
